A seminar on “Union Budget 2017-2018-Expectations & Outcome” was organized by the department of Department- HRM & IB on 9th February, 2017. It was divided into two sessions. In the first session a Panel Discussion was organized where experts from Industry and Academia gave their valuable inputs and insights related to the Union Budget 2017-18. In the second session, students presented their views on the budget and its impact on various sectors through PowerPoint presentations.
The seminar began with Lamp lighting, followed by floral greetings of the Panel experts by Prof. MK Sharma, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management. Dr Mahima Rai ,then took over the proceedings of the panel discussion as the moderator.
The first speaker was Prof. Vijay Vir Singh, an eminent personality in the field of Economics. Presently he is the director NITI Aayog Chair and Professor at Dept. of Economics, University of Rajasthan Jaipur. Vijay Vir Singh ji explained the major differences between the previous and Current Union Budget. He highlighted the fact that the new government is going for huge public expenditure. Therefore, government should adopt such policies which would reduce government deficit.
The second speaker was CA Rohan Sogani, who is a Chartered Accountant and partner in R.Sogani & Associates, Jaipur. Shri Sogani acquainted the students with different aspects of tax amendments in the light of Union Budget 2017-18. He said that Budget 2017-18 is focusing more about digitalization and aims to boost digital economy. He threw light on Presumptive Taxation.
The third speaker was Prof Som Deo, UGC Fellow Emeritus, Dept.of EAFM, University of Rajasthan Jaipur. Som Deo ji highlighted that the economic survey is very complex and difficult to be understood by the common citizen. He also emphasized on the fact that today economic policies are unable to deliver their promise.
Prof Subhash Garg, a prominent name in the field of Research Innovation & Training was the next speaker. He focused on the four main key factors - Demonetization ,Skill India, Make In India and Digital India in the context of Union Budget 2017-18.
The last speaker was Prof K.S.Sharma who highlighted that the impact of budget with respect to the Higher Education Sector.
The floor was then opened for question answer session. Students raised many questions to the panel experts which were answered by the experts in very simple way. In the end, vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr Seema Singh Rathore, HOD (Department of HRM & IB). First Session of the seminar ended on a good note and was followed by refreshments for all.
The second session began with floral greetings of the two judges –Dr.Sandeep Vyas and Dr Nidhi Sharma. There were 26 presentations given by the students. Apart from the students of The IIS University, students from other institutes of Jaipur including Amity University, Poornima College of Engineering, Jaipur National University and Apex Institute ofgave their presentations. The award for the best three presentations was bagged by Ms. Sonali Kabra of IIIM, Jaipur, Ms. Diksha Agarwal, Amity University, Jaipur & Mr. Harit Saxena of Apex Institute of Management and Science, Jaipur. In the end, a Certificate of participation was given to all the registered students.
To conclude it can be said that this seminar was successful in achieving its objective of providing a platform to the students to share, discuss and deliberate on various aspects the Union Budget 2017-18. About 200 students benefitted from this seminar.
